Book Report Makeover: Bigger Books for Younger Kids

Each week, Education World offers a new idea to help you "make over" boring book report formats. If you're looking for a way to spice up book reports -- and truly engage students in reading -- you've come to the right place. Check out this week's makeover idea

Students retell a story in simple words and pictures.

Have students in grades 4 and up work in small groups or as a class to retell a story for younger students. Provide students with an opportunity to examine the "big books" that younger students have been exposed to and then ask students to use those big books as models as they create their own versions of books they have read. When the big books are completed, schedule a special event so the "authors" can share their work with the younger children.
