Resources for Getting Organized in the Classroom

Nothing makes teachers and students happier than entering a well-organized, clean classroom. Yet with lesson planning, assessment and numerous other things to worry about, getting your classroom in order can be a little overwhelming. So where do you start?

Here are four favorite resources for helping organize the classroom at back-to-school time and throughout the year. 
 

  1. TeacherVision: This Web site is one of many that can help teachers create a well-organized classroom. Educators will learn how to collect and organize materials and resources, organize student records, prepare for extracurricular events, prepare for absences and more. Make your own personal checklist to follow during the first week of school and beyond.
     
  2. Pinterest: Check out Pinterest, a wonderful resource for innovative DIY ideas, where you'll find over 200 pins related to classroom organization. From creating shelving out of zip tie crates to creatively storing school supplies, Pinterest offers tons of ideas for keeping the classroom neat and tidy. 
     
  3. Buzzfeed: Buzzfeed isn't just for humor and entertainment; it also has plenty of resources for educators, such as "31 Incredible Bulletin Boards for Back to School" and "29 Clever Organization Hacks for Elementary School Teachers." One clever idea is using a dish rack to hold files. Another is purchasing cheap aprons and tying them to desk chairs to hold books, notebooks and workbooks.
     
  4. Books: Reading how-to books is a great way to get tips, advice and ideas. There are hundreds of books out there that instruct teachers on how to effectively organize their classroom. Here are just a few:
