Dr. Howard Miller provides these examples of appropriate rules or "expectations" for middle school students:
- Everyone has the right to be treated with respect.
- Everyone has the right and responsibility to learn.
- Students will come to class prepared with all necessary supplies.
- Class activities begin immediately and end only when the teacher dismisses the class.
- Eating and chewing are not allowed -- except when the teacher provides treats.
- Make up work missed because of absence as soon as possible.
