Five Great Ideas for Summer Fundraisers

Summer is finally here, so why not host a fun, interactive fundraiser for the entire community to enjoy? It's never too early to start planning for the school year ahead, and summer offers an opportunity for unique moneymakers. Here are five great ideas that will bring the community together and benefit your school:

  1. Ice Cream Social
Students can bring their friends and families and make their own ice cream sundaes. Offer a raffle, games, music and other activities to make it a memorable event. Try a 1950s theme--whoever dresses up as the best Greaser gets a prize!
  2. Walk-a-thon
Whether it's walking, jogging, running or rollerblading, get outdoors on a community track and have students and their families and friends go around for a good cause. Set up tables to sell snacks and other items. Participants can form teams and find sponsors; those who raise the most money win a prize or trophy at the end of the event.
  3. Cook-Off
Organize a town-wide picnic where families bring their own packed lunches, and locals pay for a chance to present their best dishes. Judges can choose the winners and award prizes. Make sure to offer games, raffles and other activities.
  4. Block Party
Here's a wonderful chance to get the community together to learn about projects, goals and other aspects of the school. Have vendors rent tables at a fair price. Raffle prizes provide an added incentive.
  5. Water Balloon Fight
Find a park or green in your community and let the games begin! The school can charge teams to enter, and teams can fundraise by getting sponsors from local businesses.
