The Role of a
Great Teacher

Share

At the start of each school year, I try to find sayings that will help teachers understand the important role they play in shaping the lives of their students. One of my favorite messages is attributed to William Arthur Ward. I had his words printed on card stock for display in teachers' classrooms. These are Ward's words:

The Mediocre Teacher
TELLS.
The Good Teacher
EXPLAINS.
The Superior Teacher
DEMONSTRATES.
The Great Teacher
INSPIRES.
Now I give all of my graduate students, who are preparing for career moves as school administrators, a copy of Ward's inspiring words.
