Looking Forward
To Monday Morning

Staff Meeting Ideas

FIVE MINUTES OF FUN

Make a calendar of staff meetings. Ask "volunteers" to sign up for a meeting in which they will take responsibility for starting off the meeting with something fun. It could be a song, joke, story, reading, or an activity such as the one below. The activities need to be in good taste, though, so they won't offend.

STAFF RAFFLE

Diane Hodges

An award-winning educator, highly acclaimed speaker, and bestselling author, Dr. Diane Hodges' weekly Looking Forward to Monday Morning columns present a wealth of ideas administrators can use to drive staff members happy!

Diane is a frequent speaker at national and state conferences, including those of the national principal associations (NAESP, NASSP). In high-energy, humorous sessions, she unleashes dozens of ideas for promoting staff recognition and appreciation and for creating a climate of fun in the workplace. In addition, schools and school districts frequently call on Diane to share ways in which staff members can create more fun and appreciation for one another… in just minutes a day.

Diane is the bestselling author of Looking Forward to Monday Morning, Looking Forward to MORE Monday Mornings, Quote This!, Laugh Lines for Educators, and Grin and Share It! -- all published by Corwin Press.

You can learn more about Diane, purchase her books, or book her for a presentation in your school or district at dianehodges.com.

Hold a raffle at staff meetings. Raffled items might be a sample that a salesperson has dropped off, a gift from a business partner, or a gift certificate for a gourmet delight made by the boss.

CIRCLE MASSAGE

Before you get into the "business" of the staff meeting, ask people to stand up and form a single-file line or circle. Tell them to place their hands on the shoulders of the person in front of them and give them a nice shoulder and neck massage.

  • First, have them pretend they're making a pizza and kneading the dough.
  • Then have them switch to making karate chop movements on the back.
  • End with light "raindrops."
After a couple minutes, have the group reverse directions and give a massage to the person who is now in front of them. Oh, it feels so good to have some of the tension released!

    QUOTE THIS!

I like to think that the greatest success of any life is the moment when a teacher touches a child's heart and it is never again the same… Everything America is or ever hopes to be depends upon what happens in our school's classrooms.
    ~ Frosty Troy

    GRIN AND SHARE IT

A little girl had just finished her first week of school. "I'm just wasting my time," she said to her mother. "I can't read, I can't write, and they won't let me talk!"

Find more smiles, chuckles, and grins in my books Laugh Lines for Educators and Grin and Share It! Find more quotes for educators in my book Quote This!

    Drive your staff happy!
