9. Non Sequitur
This one is Latin for "it does
not follow" and it means simply taking the argument totally off the road. This
sounds wacky, but people do it all the time.
"That's why I'm opposed to the
current policy," somebody might say, concluding their point in an argument about
a government policy. The user of non-sequitur might say:
"These darn companies are
sending their customer service operations to foreign countries!"
In other words, this person
simply starts talking about a totally different controversy.
